Stertil UK has achieved the prestigious SafeContractor Health and Safety award. SafeContractor is an accreditation scheme that assesses the health and safety competency of contractors in a variety of fields. Its rapidly expanding database holds details of over 6,000 contractors and acts as an approved list for a growing number of potential customers.
Stertil began working toward the accreditation mark at the end of 2004, driven by a belief in the need for stringent, uniform health and safety standards across industry. Amongst a wealth of information the company needed to submit in support of its application was evidence of its safe working practices; details of risk assessments and emergency procedures; health and safety training arrangements; details of equipment testing and maintenance; procedures on implementation of policy and control of sub-contractors.
Stertil's health and safety standards were then independently audited and acknowledged to have achieved the high standard required by SafeContractor. After twelve months, Stertil will undergo another audit to ensure not only that there has been no drop in standards, but also that the company is complying with any new legislation.
For a contractor, SafeContractor accreditation not only makes it simple to demonstrate health and safety competency to potential clients, but it can also mean significant reductions in insurance premiums. Discounts in recognition of the SafeContractor mark are available from a panel of major insurers and cover almost every trade. New business opportunities are also increased, with an ever-increasing number of organisations accessing the SafeContractor database.
Anne Reardon from Stertil, who has been responsible for driving through the accreditation process, said, "SafeContractor is the Rolls Royce of safety accreditation schemes and we're thrilled with the award. The achievement of this mark demonstrates Stertil's commitment to its clients and partners in working towards continuing safety improvements in working environments." Reardon believes that achieving the SafeContractor mark not only satisfies the needs of its customers, but also gives Stertil a competitive edge in the loading bay market.
SafeContractor works by assessing the health and safety competency of contractors and adding those that achieve the required standards to a database of 'approved suppliers'. Prospective clients can then search the database for information on a contractor's capabilities. Clients have a legal obligation to ensure that contractors operate in a safe way and SafeContractor offers them a simple way to access a list of approved contractors. The SafeContractor certificate acts as a confirmation of competency and a reassurance to clients that the health and safety practices of a contractor have been properly assessed.
